Notes is a new space on Substack for us to share links, short posts, quotes, photos, and more. At this time, it’s populated mostly by writers and people who care about writing. Perseverate and pensive people who, for better or worse, expend a lot of energy crafting their communications.
Despite my early adoption of social media, I was never able to cultivate the sensibility necessary to post selfies, quip offhandedly, or dance like no one is watching. There’s something different about this platform, or maybe I’ve just grown enough to embrace the inherent vulnerability of this form. As I’m fond of saying, “It could be both!”
Also, and this is petty, I love that they’re sticking it to the bird app and Feta. 😉
I plan to use Notes for things that don’t fit in my newsletter, aspects of my personal life that inform and provide refuge from the usual topics I write about. Off the top of my head, those might include; my family, travels, and interests outside of my writing, along with insights into the more personal reasons why I write about what I write about.
A couple of days ago, I published my first note on Substack Notes. I’ve since been interacting with people whose writing I’ve admired for a long while. If you want to get to know me better, I would love for you to join me there!
The attached photo is of me at 14, when I was certain I would be a writer, and wondered what that even meant.
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to Jade’s Newsletter, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of Jade’s Newsletter can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
The photo of you! I die! 🥹😍
